Long before the Smokies were the vacation capital of the East, they were known for their infamous moonshiner hideaways?and MOONSHINER'S RIDGE pays tribute to that colorful Appalachian past. In the mid-1900s, when Dolly Parton was a little girl growing up around Locust Ridge, the deep hollows and wooded creeks of these mountains were still home to local moonshiners operating hidden stills. In fact, the people behind this legendary mountain tradition would have been among the neighbors and characters who made up the world of her childhood.
